New Blog, New You
Could it be, yes it could
Something's coming, something good
If I can wait
I don't know what it is
But it is gonna be great
- "Something's Coming" from West Side Story
I've changed blogs so often that I think I qualify for some sort of Reincarnation discount.
Maybe that's too honest and self-effacing but, to be fair, I've been blogging for what seems like my entire life. I started my first blog in 2009, after seeing the (possibly) first film to feature a blogger as one of its main characters: Julie & Julia. The blog was published with the totally original and not at all trite title of "Mastering the Art of Human Language." Obviously there was a Freudian thing going on with Julia Child, but I must be forgiven for my neophyte "pedestriana." Sadly, these were the early days of Blogger and, once it was inactive for a period of time, it was deleted and lost to the ages.
Fairly soon after that, I started a blog that would become nefarious for a short period of time. From my senior year of high school until the end of my second year of college, I was a dyed-in-the-wool, unabashed, and shameless conservative. And, as every self-respecting conservative does, I wanted to spout my anti-gay (which obviously I now know was a form of self-hatred), anti-liberal rhetoric. The blog was, once again, entitled for the ages: "The Life and Times of a Young Republican" and it was hosted on ChicagoNow, a blog subsidiary of The Chicago Tribune. I had a good run of approx. three years with that blog, even garnering some death threats from the anti-Occupy Wall Street bile I was excreting. Once I saw the error of my Palin-esque ways, I retired the blog, which can still be read in its entirety.
After taking a few years off of blogging for school and writing a few books, I decided to throw my hat back into the ring. I returned to ChicagoNow with my new blog, "From the Ego of Steven" (later renamed "Steven's Old Showbiz.") Again, there were a few years of successful blogs and much-lauded commentary during the 2016 election, but I decided to give up on CN forever. The CN blog, which once was a hidden gem of the Chicago literary scene, descended into an incoherent pile of bloggers, riddled with Top 10 lists and Mommy Tips. The blog changed manager's and, suddenly, something that was once special and singular turned into a footnote. I wished the site the best and have since been ex-communicated from posting. You can insert the crying Emoji here, if you'd like.
Now here's the moment, I'm sure, that you've all been waiting for - the return of Steven Krage, Blogger!
The main crux of this new blogging endeavor, my first independent blog not affiliated with an organization, will be reviews and commentary. Film, Television, Audio, and Live Event reviews will be the heart of it, as well as special features of character actors, old films, etc...
So, sit back, relax, and get ready for the new, restored, updated, annotated From the Ego of Steven 2.0!
